Center Policies

Policies for Domestic and Farm Animal Rescue Shelters

Hooves & Paws is committed to administering the very best care and love for both our domesticated and farm animals’ rescued. Our mission is to provide a safe haven for those of helpless animals who have been neglected, abused or can no longer be cared for.

All rescued animals will be provided with a safe and peaceful environment at our sanctuary.  Housing, bedding, feed, veterinary treatments and exercise will be provided as appropriate for each species and tailored to each individual animals’ needs and personalities.

As a no-kill facility, all domesticated and farm animals rescued are never euthanized based on space, age or inability to find adoptive homes.  Animals are only euthanized upon the advice of our veterinarian and only when suffering severe pain, after all possible treatment options have been exhausted and when there is no hope for recovery.

Giving Up a Pet
We know that sometimes it’s not possible to keep a pet due to a multitude of reasons such as financial problems, allergies,  or moving. Although this is a difficult decision to make, you do have options available to you.  Give us a call or email us and we may be able to assist you with making a decision that best takes into consideration your pets welfare. Here at H&P we can help owners who can no longer care for their animals and who wish to resign care of their animals to our domesticated and farm animal rescue.  You will be asked for any records you may have for your pet so that we have a medical history and will be asked questions such as your pet’s likes, dislikes, habits, and personality so that we can best evaluate your pets needs. Upon surrendering, you will be required to complete an animal relinquishment contract which releases all claims of ownership of animals to Hooves & Paws Animal Rescue.

Adoptions
We encourage adoptions of our rescued animals, and are dedicated to placing our pets in a safe and loving home.  Potential adopters, whether they adopt a dog or are going through a horse adoption, are required to complete an application.  Once approved, a Hooves & Paws representative will conduct a home check to ensure that the prospective home will be a healthy environment for the animal.  An adoption fee also applies and varies based on type of animal adopted.

Animal Care and Maintenance
All of our domesticated and farm animals rescued will be sterilized.  Allowing animals to breed directly contradicts our mission of reducing the number of unwanted animals.  Exceptions will only be allowed if, upon the advice of our veterinarian, the surgery will likely endanger the health or life of the animal.
All rescued animals will be vaccinated and de-wormed as appropriate for the species.  When someone adopts a dog the animal will be micro-chipped.
Animals will be rescued and provided refuge at our sanctuary as space is available.  Space is not only determined by our ability to comfortably house animals, but is also determined by our financial resources and ability to provide for the daily care and veterinary treatments of current and additional animals

Visitors

Out of respect for our animals, volunteers and visitors are asked not to consume meat on our sanctuary premises. Our animals adore love and affection like anyone else, but we also please ask that you do not touch or feed the animals without first consulting with us. The rescued animals may be on a diet restriction, or needs time adjusting to our facility and can be easily afraid of new faces.
