Rescued Animals Who Found New Homes
HERE ARE JUST A FEW OF OUR MANY SUCCESS STORIES
Our ongoing efforts to save the animals is arduous but extremely rewarding. Read about the rescued animals now living in new adoptive homes. Our goal when saving the animals is rehoming, but when that’s not possible, they are welcome to live at our sanctuary.
Gucci
We discovered Gucci when a volunteer alerted us that the pup was being neglected. We discovered that he was being locked in a cold and filthy garage because he frequently had “accidents” in the house. We knew the skinny and lethargic pup needed help and that we had to rescue him. We convinced his owner to let us take him and find him a new home. We immediately took Gucci to our veterinarian and unfortunately the pup was diagnosed with Parvovirus, a potentially fatal disease. After several days of hospitalization and round the clock veterinary care, the tough little pup recovered. As part of our animal rehoming efforts, we had no problem finding him a permanent adoptive home. We regularly receive pictures and updates of the little guy and it is obvious that he is being treated like a little prince.
Max

We weren’t sure if the scared dog would ever let us help him. We found him living off scraps at a nearby truck rest area and we believe he was most likely abandoned by his owner. We visited the frightened dog at least twice a day, bringing food and water. And after a couple weeks of trying, we were finally able to put a leash on him and bring him back to our shelter. Max blossomed into a wonderfully gentle and loving dog. We found a great new family for him where he is big brother to a couple very happy Chihuahuas.
UPDATE:
Max is a hero! We just found out that Max saved the life one of his Chihuahua brothers, Chile. Chile was attacked by a coyote and was being taken away to his death. Max bravely ran after the coyote so furiously that the coyote dropped Chile. Although Chile sustained serious injuries, including a punctured lung, the little dog recovered. Max was by his side the whole time. Just like us, Max wants to save the animals too!
Wiley
Wiley was found by one of our volunteers while he was wandering the streets. He was filthy, skinny and in danger of being hit by a car. Fortunately, the little dog trusted our volunteer and hopped in her car. We posted signs and placed ads in the newspaper but as we predicted, no one ever claimed him. The poor dog was merely discarded by his previous family and left to fend for himself. Wiley quickly fit in with the other dogs at our sanctuary. He lived with us until one of our local supporters; ,also wanting to save the animals, saw him. She knew Wiley was the perfect addition to her family so she adopted him. Wiley now has a permanent loving home where he is very spoiled. Wiley and his new Mom visit us often.

Frankie
The little chick was shipped to a local feed store when she was only a day old. She and all the chicks with her were being sold either to be pets or food. But Frankie had a serious problem. She was born with a deformed beak and was not able to be sold. She most certainly would have been killed or would have just been put aside to slowly starve to death. Fortunately, we found her and brought her to our sanctuary. Frankie’s deformed beak made it impossible for her to eat normal food and when we first rescued her, she was severely malnourished. We nursed the chick back to health with a special diet and round the clock care. Frankie is now a healthy adult chicken but will always require special food prepared several times a day. Even though she will never be as strong and healthy as other chickens due to her deformity, she has learned to adapt and does extremely well. She lives in a special needs pen with other chickens who have disabilities and is one of the most friendly animals at our sanctuary.
Nacho
We discovered Nacho when we heard desperate squeals near our sanctuary. The tiny piglet was being attacked by two large dogs in our neighbor’s yard. After saving the baby pig from the dogs, we rushed him to our veterinarian. He sustained such severe injuries that he was very close to death. When we returned to our sanctuary, we convinced Nacho’s owner to relinquish the pig to our rescue. Nacho required weeks of medication and round the clock care, but eventually the pig made a full recovery. We later discovered our neighbor had planned on slaughtering Nacho for food. We were relieved that we were able to rescue the pig from certain death. Nacho is now a healthy and happy pig and one of our most interesting animals at our sanctuary.
Carrie
In our successful horse rescue, we first learned about Carrie’s plight when her owner called and explained that she could not afford to feed her. We immediately brought hay to the horse and found her to be in horrible condition. She was severely underweight and was living alone in a small filthy pen. Most shocking was her deformed front leg. We knew that Carrie desperately needed to be removed from that situation and we immediately began the daunting task of building a new horse shelter. We worked as fast as we could and when the shelter was ready, we transported the neglected horse to our sanctuary. Our veterinarian examined her and determined that the bowed leg was most likely the result of an untreated broken leg that healed abnormally. Our vet prescribed medication to alleviate any arthritic pain. Carrie has gained weight and has no trouble getting out to the pastures to graze. She has become very accustomed to being spoiled and is very vocal every morning when it is time for her special grain and bran mash. The only thing she loves more than her food is having the company of other animals, especially other horses.
