Jasper is a cute little package at about 50 pounds. He is around 10 years old and looks to be mixed with maybe Border Collie and Labrador. He has great energy – relaxed and lazy when you are and active when you want him to be. Jasper gets along with his 4 foster dog buddies (both young, old, dominant and submissive, male and female represented). He loves to play with dogs his size and appears well socialized. He eats loose with our dogs and does not display issues with guarding or food possessiveness. He is not totally sure what to do with toys, but is learning.
He loves people and is very submissive – he wants to make sure he is pleasing you and looks to people to get guidance. He rides very well in cars and would make an excellent traveling companion. He walks well on leash and is extremely obedient. We would say he is one of the most obedient dogs our family has ever fostered – you say sit and lay down and he does it on the spot first time asked. He is great off leash as well – sticks with you and loves to explore.
He is excellent with our two mini donkeys even if they are a bit too interested in him at times. He has been good with our two cats – he walks loose with them both in the house and outside. The only issue is that he is terrified of cats and is uncomfortable at times when they come up to him. A family experienced with dog training and socialization could assimilate him into a house with cats as he is not cat aggressive – just overly nervous – he would need monitoring and guidance whenever he is with cats – eventually he would get comfortable and has been improving in his foster home. Jasper has no separation anxiety (no barking, destruction, whining, etc. when alone) – he will stay in a kennel, crate, or yard quietly. He is extremely content with confinement and being alone. Jasper is in good health with no obvious allergies and does not take any meds. He appears housebroken as has not had any accidents in our home, but we also monitor him to ensure he makes no mistakes. Jasper is gentle and would be excellent for a home with older people. He could live in a home with kids, but might be a bit boring in not playing with toys. However – Jasper would be an excellent starter dog for any family.
